“Tripling the facility size while minimizing foodservice downtime was a tough phasing assignment. Fortunately, we know how to do to our jobs without stopping anybody else from doing theirs.”

This project was another joint venture with Usry Wolfe Koll Architects. Our assignment more than tripled the size of this facility, combining additions and renovations (the existing facilities and additions now total 82,775 SF). A split-level classroom design answered the most pressing question—how best to use the sloping 10-acre site.
We renovated the original facility, built in 1968, and adapted it for continued use. With classroom additions, the school now accommodates 700 students in grades K-5. We expanded core facilities, such as food service, the media center and administrative offices, to handle a projected student population of 1,000. The project was phased, due to a large number of portables on the existing site, which created limiting site constraints.
Our design gives strong consideration to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, providing loading areas for buses and cars, with separate loading for the youngest children. New parking and service access areas preserve as much level ground as possible for outdoor play areas.
